Bombolini is a local institution of Canberra. They make fluffy light Bombolini doughnuts in their markets. The doughnuts are filled with custards and jams. They’re basically custard bombs. Each week Bombolini provides eight flavours, including the regulars like Madagascan vanilla with wildflowers and dark chocolate with shaved chocolate curls.

Patissez Café is the home of the world-renowned Freakshakes. Yes, it is a worldwide drink but they are the OG. They got viral on Instagram, with good reason. They are monstrous shakes with toppings all over the top and the glass as well. They are very appealing.

The ice cream here in the central Canberra suburb of Braddon needs to be tasted. You will find flavours like Tim Tam and even peanut butter and bacon. They are even experimenting with Paleo and more herb varieties of ice cream.

4. Salted Caramel Popcorn Sundae

This is the sundae that was featured on the cover of Australian Gourmet Traveller. It has now become a Canberra favourite. The most important element of this dish is the caramel. Dark toasty caramel gives a contrasting flavour to the chilled buttery ice cream.

A recent addition to the Smoque menu is the deep-fried Oreos. They are served with a scoop of Mr Frugii’s cookies and cream gelato. It consists of four whole Oreos that have been battered and deep-fried until crispy. The Oreos are warm with a melted middle so it gets the perfect amount of oozy.  

10. Mr Scroll

Mr Scroll is a distributor of Oregano Bakery’s popular scrolls. Some of the favourites are the white chocolate mocha, Turkish Cherry Delight, cookies and cream, and the original cinnamon scroll. Scrolls are soft, fresh, and with multiple layers. They have a filling between those layers, making it moist and delicious.

Morks’ Sweet Egg in Hay dessert consists of two scoops of coconut ice cream, sweetened condensed milk, shaved coconut that is toasted, candy floss and crispy puff pastry. This dessert is heavenly. If you love coconut and coconut flavoured anything, you are bound to love this!
