We all are sceptical about going on a diet either because we think it’s too expensive or because it’s tasteless and boring. And sometimes we think we have one life, so why not live it king size, but often we ignore the fact that if we become king size, and we can never live our lives to the fullest, with obesity comes high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, thyroid and many other diseases.

And the number of people suffering from these diseases is ever increasing, so you better be on the safe side rather than regretting it later. How do start making the right choices and eat healthily? I got all the solutions for you with these healthy recipes to try.

Try these healthy recipes when on a diet

1. Salad

I know salads can be boring sometimes, but it’s because you haven’t tasted my recipe yet, the recipe is simple and takes about 5 minutes to assemble with a little bit of meal planning. So, we take a big bowl, add chopped fresh green veggies of your choice, add vegetables of your choice (make sure you use a lot of colors, that way you ensure that your eyes are tricked into believing it’s tasty).

I love to add onions, bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, capsicum, boiled sweet potato, and yes some paneer (if you are a vegetarian) or boiled and shredded chicken or eggs (if you are a non-vegetarian). Add a little bit of dressing, I love garlic olive oil and some salt and pepper for seasoning. And voila! You have your salad.

2. Curd rice

A very famous North Indian food is dahi chawal, and it is mostly cherished in summers, and it’s undoubtedly one of the healthiest meals ever. All you need to do is take some boiled rice, mix it with curd and have it. It depends on you if you want to have it a bit salty or sweet. Though I would recommend having it with a bit of black salt and jeera-mirch powder.

3. Green Moong khichdi

The green Moong khichdi is one of a kind. It is packed with antioxidants and good fat. If you have noticed that even in the recipes above, I have included a good source of carbohydrates and fat, and that is because our body needs it. The fitness industry has been fooling us for ages, but yeah, it’s time we know the truth. Let’s move on with the recipe. The recipe is time-saving, delicious, and one of the healthy recipes out of many.

All you need to do is add about equal parts soaked rice and equal parts soaked green Moong Dal in a pressure cooker, add water accordingly, add salt, turmeric and grated ginger and wait for 3-4 whistles. After the pressure is gone, open it and serve it with ghee. Trust me, it’s the best.

4. The Bengal famous ‘Macher jhol’

Yes, you read it right. Fish curry is an absolute delicacy of Bengal, but the recipe makes it different from the rest. We know that fish is full of omega 3 and fatty acids, which is great for your body. Most people use a variety of pastes and lots of oil to make it, but here’s a healthy recipe that is an authentic Bengali staple.

In a kadhai heat, some mustard oil and slightly fry your fish (here’s what makes a difference, use less oil) once you take it out, in the same oil add some kalonji and a variety of vegetables saute them and add lots of water and let it simmer and reduce a bit, then add your fish and chopped coriander leaves and that’s it. Serve it hot with steamed rice.

5. Protein chikki

Having a sweet tooth and trying to eat healthy doesn’t go hand in hand quite often. But this recipe will surely help you out. I dry roast my choice of seeds and nuts and add it while the Jaggery is melted and in a plate grease some ghee and slightly press the mixture, and make cuts while it’s still warm, and then all you do is to wait for it to dry. And you have your chikki ready.
