We all love cake, but baking a cake is not everyone’s ‘piece of cake’. It is a long and tedious process, but worry not, even a newbie can bake a decent cake. If you are new at baking, trust the recipe, and just follow the process.

1. Mug Cake
The easiest one, followed by Rava are the easiest cakes to make. Grease a mug with oil or unsalted butter. In a bowl mix together 1 tbsp sugar (generally powdered sugar will be good, if not normal sugar is fine as well), ½ tsp baking powder, 2 cups flour, salt, milk, oil and vanilla mix together well. Sprinkle cinnamon powder and brown sugar if want for taste. Transfer this mixture into the mug, set the timer for 1 minute 30 seconds, after baking it, if needed top with chocolate syrup.
2. Rava Cake
Rava or semolina is an ingredient that is always available in every household. This cake is one of the easiest and quick to make. In a large bowl add a cup of rava, 1 tsp baking powder, and cinnamon powder after finely sieving it together. In other bowl add 2 tbsp ghee and 1 cup sugar and blend well together. Mix yogurt with this mixture. Fold in this whole mixture with the dry ingredients and let it sit for 2 hours. Garnish the batter with chopped almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and raisins. Preheat the cooker or the vessel or oven and then bake the cake for 10-15 minutes, if in doubt pick it with a toothpick or fork. If nothing sticks to it, then the cake is ready to turn the heat off. Let the cake cool down completely and then serve it with milk, tea, or coffee.
3. Vanilla Sponge Cake
Vanilla sponge cake can be simply made by adding vanilla essence. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C, till then sieve together the dry ingredients, a cup flour, 1 tsp baking powder. In a separate bowl mix butter and sugar together, beat 2 eggs and add the wet mixture gradually. Then add this mixture to the dry ingredients. Add 2-3 drops of vanilla essence as required and pour the batter into the cake tray, after greasing it with unsalted butter, then put it in the oven and bake for around 35 minutes. After it is done, let it cool down and then garnish it with syrup or chocolate shavings or powdered sugar or honey.
4. Chocolate Cake
In this cake along with vanilla essence add chocolate powder. Filter the dry ingredients flour, chocolate powder and baking powder into a bowl. In a small bowl beat 2 eggs and mix in sugar and butter. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and fold it along with vanilla extract. Grease the tray with unsalted butter or place parchment paper, pour the batter into the bowl and bake the cake for 30-35 minutes, check if it is baked by picking it with a toothpick. Let the cake sit till it’s cool and then sprinkle it with powdered sugar or syrup.
5. Oreo Cake
This is a trending cake as it is easy to make. Buy the oreo sandwich cookies, big packet. Crush the biscuits. Reserve a cup of it for topping, mix in the butter with the rest of the crushed cookies. Freeze this mixture for 5 minutes. In a bowl, blend 1 container of the whipped topping until it is freezing, with 2 packs of cream cheese and a cup of sugar. Pour this mixture over the crust and freeze again for around 5 hours, then top it with the crushed mixture which we kept aside, then freeze again, for around 12 hours or overnight. This is a no-bake cake, which is equally delicious and tasty. Serve this cake with some more whipped cream; if wanted.
6. Coffee Cake
Coffee is one the most favourite beverage, it is not just reserved for beverages though, coffee serves best as an ingredient as well. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease the pan with unsalted butter. In a medium bowl, combine ¼ flour, 2/3 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Cut ¼ cup butter until the mixture is coarse. Then set this aside. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, ¾ cup of sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut the half cup butter until mixture resembles coarse, crack an egg into measuring cup and then fill add milk to make a cup. Stir in vanilla, pour into crumb mixture and mix till moist. Spread into prepared pan, sprinkle some choco chips on it. Bake it for 25-30 minutes, pick it up to check if it’s done.
7. Pistachio-Almond Cake
Nothing is more delightful than dry fruit cake. It is nutritious, delicious and tasty. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, till then grease the tray with unsalted paper, dust it with sugar, and tap out the excess sugar. Chop up the pistachios until they are fine, but do not chop it too much. Add ½ cup of almond flour, 100 grams of all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, and half tsp cardamom, and add the pistachios.
In a bowl of a stand mixer, beat the eggs with the sugar until very thick light, and fluffy for about 5 minutes. Slowly, drizzle olive oil into the eggs or sugar mixture, beating it. Drizzle in the melted butter, beat until the mixture comes together, but do not over-mix. Fold in the dry ingredients into the wet, pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for about 44 minutes, or until the cake turns golden brown. Let it cool down completely, and then garnish it with syrup.
8. Lemon Cake
Lemon cake makes our day. Lemon is a fruit that is citrus and beneficial for our health, this cake is delicious and nutritious as well. Preheat the oven to about 325 degrees F. grease the pan with unsalted butter. In a large bowl mix cake mix and pudding mix; store-bought together. Beat the 4 eggs one at a time, stir in a cup of lemon soda. Pour batter into the prepared pan, bake in the oven for 45 minutes then allow it to cool. Garnish with coarse milk or chocolate sauce and top it with lemon zest or chocolate shaving.
